You’ve probably heard that you can only get where you want to be if you know where you’re going. This statement is as true now as the first time it was said. So how do you come to know where you’re going, so you can get where you want to be?
To start with, goals are crucial. When we set goals, what we’re really trying to do is to bring each piece of our lives in line with our overall vision for ourselves. Using a powerful vision-setting process can help you set more effective goals, since you can chart a course that will take you toward and support your vision.
Do you have a vision for each segment of your life? Do you know where you’re headed spiritually, socially, relationally, physically, financially, and more?
Use this process to help you create a vision that works for you:
1. Write down your vision for a particular aspect of your life. Write a couple of paragraphs describing what you’d like to have or be. There’s no right or wrong. In fact, you probably won’t precisely articulate your dreams the very first time you try the exercise. A reasonable guess is a good place to start. This is the first step to understanding how to be happy in life.
- In writing your vision, avoid focusing on what you don’t want, because this will only bring about more of that. Turn your back on negativity and focus on what you do want to bring about.
- For example, if you want more money: Avoid wording your statement like: “I don’t want to be poor anymore.” Instead, envision what it would be like to be rich, which is what you want, and write about what that would be like for you.
- Although you may feel challenged when first learning to focus on what you want, it gets easier. Plus, the rewards are spectacular when you can do it consistently. You’ll start to notice that your life seems as if you can change it at will, which you can.
2. Visualize. Read your vision statement 2-3 times a day and imagine that aspect of your life matches your vision perfectly. How does your vision make you feel? Are you really excited and enthusiastic? Is it appealing to you on all levels? This shouldn’t take more than 60 seconds to do each time. This is the next to to understanding how to be happy in life.
3. Refine. If you feel really good about your vision, that’s great. If not, now is the time to make some alterations. Continue refining the image of your dream life until doing your visualization feels spectacular. Re-write each new version and you will be closer to understanding how to be happy in life.
- At this point, you may be wondering when this process ever ends. Fortunately, it never ends. Your vision will forever be changing slightly throughout your life, which is good, since your desires will also change over time.
4. Review your vision daily and ensure that it continues to attract you. This will rapidly usher change into your life. In turn, these changes will demonstrate that you’re actually moving towards that vision. It’s one thing to know how to be happy in life, it’s another thing to sustain that happiness. This daily review is important to going beyond knowing how to be happy in life. It’s important to staying happy in life.
5. Create separate vision statements for all the areas of your life. Consider your finances, relationships, adventure, health, social life, and spirituality. If you can get all these visions to look just the way you want, imagine what your life will look like!
Why Spend Time On This Process?
Consider all the things you do every day. Everything you do is either helping you reach your vision or helping someone else reach theirs. Wouldn’t you rather help yourself reach yours?
Creating a vision is the first step to creating the life you desire. Tweak your visions a couple of times a day and really focus on the experience of living that vision. This gets easier all the time, because imagining something enjoyable is pleasurable in itself.
Don’t hesitate; create your visions today. Then, start reviewing and improving them immediately. Your life will change rapidly for the better. You’ll then be spending your time making your own visions a reality instead of making someone else’s dream come true.
Life is to be savored and enjoyed. Each person on earth deserves to have a happy life. However, in order to live a life you love and that you are happy with, it’s important to consider a Life Plan in which you’ve formulated everything you want out of life.

Choosing to be happy can sometimes be very difficult depending on your circumstances. You have done a great job in laying it all out for us and telling us how it is. Ultimately it is up to us and I think your work book is going to be a big help in getting to that happy place. You rock Stephan, is this part of the success coaching you are going to be doing this year?
[Reply]
This was a very interesting article Stephan, you are absolutely right Happiness IS a choice, if you choose to be negative all your life then you most likely are not going to be happy. I have found in order to be happy you have to accept what God has for you no matter what it may be. I am sure there will be things that you don’t like but choose to accept it anyway.

Thank you Stephan for writing this blog and for the free workbook. I have made up my mind that this year is going to be different, I CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY. There is a lot of junk going on in my life right now but I am going to Choose to be Happy at all costs. And I am going to choose to be positive instead of negative about everything. Thank you so much.

Ever since I started reading books on philosophy and self improvement, I was aware that happiness is directly correlated with the pursuit of goals that fulfill you. However, my idea of happiness had always been linked in some way to achieving success. But your article did open my mind to the fact that there is more to happiness than just achieving wealth. Knowing where you are headed spiritually, socially, relationally, physically, financially, and more. I look forward to reading this manual.

Your free self-help material is priceless. You gave me a great idea in one of your gift reports on how to stay motivated. I experienced a bit of writers block, and needed to get back to writing. Your suggestion was to look at the project from different angles and try something different. I thought about audio or doing a you-tube video. Then I remembered that a fellow writer friend was also stuck. Well, we teemed up together to finish the book as co-authors. The support works for us. Your suggestions above are exacting and in detail. That’s what I love about all your self-help tools. Your free material certainly does and can help anyone. I will be downloading this new gift of yours. Thank you!

Hi Steve,
Happiness is never pernament. It only last until the next trial comes along. In life, happiness is not something that can be make for our selves.
The happiness that I have is the Peace and understaning of
god’s love, mercy and grace, all His abundant benefits he gives to those who are obedient.
Steve while I like everything that you said, I just had to throw this in. You see in the Bible, the word of God say “seek the kingdom of God and all his rightenous and all these things will be added to you. Most of us know that happiness will leave you as soon as circumstance comes along, losing a job, divorce, can’t pay your bills, etc., etc.
However on the other side side is Steve, a great professional that knows his stuff when it come to making money and internet plus a wonderful Leader and trainer.
I would like to recommend everyone reding this please try God first, He is still on the Throne ready to help with any situation….then call steve an ask for help if you want to really make money….He’s the best hands down. For give me for taking so long but God has been my source of happiness and you have helped also.
John Harris
May God bless you and your.

As a person whose suffered from clinical depression and overcome it, I can truly say that overall, no matter what trials come, I retain happiness. Why? because I know just how dangerous it is to give in to discontent, and worry conflicts with my faith in a God who teaches us how to remain in overall good spirits under trials. Our moods are under our own control. We need this kind of thinking to succeed in biz. Mr. Pierce mentions his faith in many of his self-help tools. In addition, this blog post gives practical helps. It is not a gospel blog post. So,there is a time and place for all things.

It would be impossible to even estimate the number of jobs that have been lost, promotions or good grades missed, sales lost, or marriages ruined by poor attitudes. But you can number in the millions the jobs that are held but hated, the marriages that are tolerated but unhappy, the parents and children who fail to understand and love one another – all because of people who are waiting for the world and others to make them happy. They don’t understand that what they’re getting is a reflection of themselves. Nothing can change until we do. When we change, our worlds will change. The answer is attitude!
[Reply]
Attitude is everything, if you are choosing to be happy it is all in the attitude. If you have a good, happy, positive attitude then the people around you will start to feel that way too. Out of all the self help blogs and books that I have read, yours always keep me coming back. I would love to know on average how many people a day read your blogs.

True happiness is something I strive for every day. There are a lot of things in the last six months that I have done wrong and I am sowing the consequences of those mistakes now. Choosing to be happy through this time is really tuff but I am doing my best. Thank you for the pep talk, I really needed that and I am going to set some goals for myself too, thanks again.

Thanks for your promotions so far!
I’m a positive individual and want to know how to get started making money online. Hoping to hear from you.

Billions of human beings would give anything they have to enjoy the freedom and personal liberty we take for granted; to have the right to choose their work and their goals; to enjoy our bountiful standard of living and our educational system; to know the peace and privacy of our homes; and to have laws that protect the citizen rather than persecute him. We have it all. Yet, in the midst of our plenty, millions lead unhappy, aimless lives, They live in tiny prisons of their own fashioning. These are the people who don’t know that each of us – not the economy or fate or luck or the breaks, is in charge of his attitude in life.

I think the way to really be happy in life, is by having true faith in God, you give all your worries to Him. I know that you aren’t supposed to worry about things but it’s really difficult sometimes to just let everything go. I will say, when I do practice what I preach I am happier in life. I know that isn’t in your self help guide but I find it to be true.
[Reply]
I have downloaded your “Design your life work book and I am going to start working on it, but I was wondering if you have any advice for someone who is a bit overwhelmed, what should you do when you are feeling that way. Life is just dumping all over my husband and I and I’m not sure what to do. I know your workbook will help I was just looking for a quick fix.
[Reply]
I understand the concept of setting goals because you will feel happy when you set a goal and reach it, but what happens when you set a goal and you don’t reach it what does that do for your vision of your life? I guess that is why you included refining your vision and reviewing it daily. Thank you for the excellent advice as always.
[Reply]
I haven’t done your workbook yet and I fully intend to, but do you think that people that have a lot of money and can do anything and everything they want to do or purchase anything they want are truly happy in life? I have pondered this before and I am not sure what to think, I’m sure there are problems with that life to, but I would like to give it a shot.
[Reply]
No one is without problems; problems are a part of living. I read a study the results of which will show you how much time we waste in worrying about the wrong problems. Here’s a reliable estimate of the things people worry about: things that never happen, 40 percent; things over and past that can’t be changed by all the worry in the world, 30 percent; needless worries about our health, 12 percent; petty miscellaneous worries, 10 percent; real, legitimate worries, 8 percent. In short, 92 percent of the average person’s worries take up valuable time, cause painful stress – even mental anguish – and are absolutely unnecessary.

From the very first tip (number one) Stephen is already on the right track for success – well, at least those who are diligently following this game plan are, or will be. Mr. Pierce has at least one thing in common with other success coaches. His game changing plan begins with writing down or mapping out your ideas, your dreams, your goals. All gurus, when they tell about their own success stories, they all start out how they sat down and imagined their ideal life. And then set about to make a plan of action.
