1. Avoid just going through the motions. One reason you may find it difficult to perform everyday tasks is that you get bored. Of course you’re going to try to avoid something that you find tedious! You can combat this mentality by adding some depth to your thinking while you’re engaging in tasks you dislike.
- Brainstorm ways that you can complete the task in a more efficient manner. Then you can compete with yourself to see how quickly you can complete the task in the future. The quicker you get it done, the sooner you can move on to bigger and better things!
2. Get spiritual. Don’t be afraid to get in touch with your spiritual side. Many people find it highly motivating! When you discover some answers to life’s tough questions, it brings you clarity, and you may be more likely to work harder to achieve your desires.
3. Set a goal. You might lack motivation because you don’t have a goal. If you aren’t even sure what you’re working towards, you’ll have difficulty finding motivation.
- If you have a large goal, break up the goal into a series of small, achievable tasks and set each task as a separate goal. This helps you maintain motivation because you’re constantly achieving your goals. You can see the results of your hard work!
4. Hold yourself accountable. In order to ensure that you don’t stray from your chosen path, evaluate your progress every week or even every day. Determine how you can do better the next week.
- If you find that it’s difficult to keep yourself accountable, don’t be afraid to ask for help. You may enjoy having others check up on you to make sure you stay on task.
5. Think positive thoughts. Negative thinking and lack of motivation go hand in hand. You can increase your motivation by concentrating on eliminating your negative thinking patterns. Replace negative feelings with optimism and positive thoughts and images.
- When you catch yourself feeling down, make an extra effort to seek the silver lining. It’s always there. If you take the time to look hard enough, you’ll find it.
6. Make a change. If you think you’ve tried everything and you still can’t get motivated, perhaps you should consider a life change. Maybe there’s a reason why you’re feeling this way.
- If you don’t feel motivated to work toward your major life goals, consider some alternatives that may be more in line with your true desires.
- If you’re having trouble finding motivation for everyday chores, see if you can find a way to hire some help.
Always keep in mind that “the time is now.” Put procrastination into your past and you’ll feel happy and accomplished at the end of the day, instead of stressed out or regretful.
When you’re motivated, life is more fulfilling. Use these strategies to wake up your motivation and enjoy the difference!

If you find that you’re feeling less self-assured than you’d like, you can step up and take action to shore yourself back up. Review the following strategies to find inspiration.
Take personal responsibility to build your self-confidence using these methods:
1. Select a mentor. If you want to believe in yourself, seek someone who you think exhibits great self-confidence. Consider this person to be your model of self-confidence. When selecting a mentor, ask yourself:
- Does he stand straight and strong?
- Is he relaxed and open to others?
- In addition to these traits, maybe he has a good sense of humor and looks people straight in the eye when he speaks to them. Or perhaps he models other characteristics you admire. Having someone to emulate is incredibly inspiring. Modeling after your mentor enhances your self-confidence.
2. Identify what you’re doing right in your life. Sure, you know your shortcomings, but what about all those things you do well? Everyone excels at some tasks or activities. Seek out what those things are for you.
- Make a list of what you believe you’re good at.
- Consider this: no one in the world has the same unique qualities and strengths that you do in the way that you do.
- What are you doing right? If you know the answer to this, your self-confidence will bloom.
3. Pretend you’re self-confident. You can most likely identify times and situations in your history when you didn’t feel particularly positive. Think about how you handled some of them.
- On your good days, you put your chin up and plowed forward into the situation at hand. You pretended you believed you could do it. And chances are, you did!
- Going forward, on the days you feel the least self-confident, think of your mentor and pretend that you’re confident like he or she is.
- Believe in yourself. Have faith that you’ll make it through.
4. Make a list of your strong points. What character traits do you have to offer that are of great benefit to you or others?
- Are you patient, kind or caring? Identify personality characteristics that you’re proud of. Ponder your strong points. Knowing yourself will enhance your self-confidence.
5. In your daily life, notice when you do something well. Perhaps you just cleaned up your car and it looks awesome. Maybe you completed a report and it’s the best you’ve ever written.
- Recognize each day the times when you excel. Perhaps you helped your child through a difficult time or you made a great chocolate cake.
- Little efforts add up to build your self-confidence.
6. Celebrate your progress. Take notice of your good fortune.
- When you’ve met or surpassed your goals, celebrate! Rejoice in your own successes. Congratulate yourself as you build the self-confidence you seek.
7. Choose optimism as a daily approach to everything. Strive to be positive in life’s journey.
- When you make the decision to find the best in whatever life brings you, your self-confidence will soar.
Strengthening your self-confidence is within your reach. Choosing a mentor, knowing your strong points, and celebrating the attainment of your goals are just a few of strategies that build your self-confidence. Promise yourself today that you’ll strive to strengthen your belief in yourself. You have a legitimate right to live your life with great self-esteem.

When others look at me, they are inspired to achieve their best because they see my determination. I make others around me feel confident because of my encouraging spirit.
I trust that my future is in good hands and that I will see my dreams come to pass. Even when I am uncertain about my next steps, I trust that my life is on the path that I desire.
I know that things will work out for me because I am responsible. I plan ahead in order to feel prepared. Prayer and planning help me to walk through life with a reassuring confidence that I will, indeed, fulfill my destiny.
I walk with my head held high and a smile on my face. When I greet others, I have a firm handshake that communicates confidence in my work. I look at people in the eyes because I am confident that they want to hear what I have to say.
Today, I carry myself with confidence because I have faith in the power of my abilities. I smile confidently because I have no doubts about where I am headed.
