I personally consider blogs to be the chief cornerstone of all your online marketing efforts.

Back in 2004 I created and released with my brother one of the first ever courses on blogging called How To Blog For Fun & Profits (no longer available). Yep, nearly five years ago and before blogs became the rave that they are today.

I was blogging it up on futures and commodities many years ago. However, blogs today are different and more powerful… and much easier to use.

Blogs today are used for…

  • PreSell Pages
  • Review Pages
  • Salesletters
  • Optin Pages
  • Membership Sites
  • Traffic Funnels
  • …and uh, Blogs

Sometimes it freaks people out to hear blogs are used for salesletters, so check this out. This site here http://www.mrmibasictraining.com is an  example of one of our sites that is using the WordPress blog platform for both the salesletter and the membership platform.

When you hover you mouse over the About Stephen, FAQS and Support tabs look at the url address bar in the bottom of your browser and you will see the blog page.

Also, scroll down to the bottom of the salesletter and you will see “Powered By Wordpress.”

And, when you click on the “Log In” tab you will be taken to the customize WordPress login.

Blogs are also used effectively in combination with paid advertising like PPC and Banners as well as with video and podcasting.

The three main platforms being used are…

  1. http://wordpress.org
  2. http://www.blogger.com
  3. http://www.typepad.com

Blogs have become the near perfect platform for both generating traffic AND monetizing that traffic.

Now, while some would argue about the right and wrong way to blog… I would say the worst thing you could do is to not be blogging at all… YIKES! I dare not think such thoughts. :)

Download Your FREE Classified Ad Traffic Generation Checklist (Part 9 of 21)

While the word “easy” is used rather loosely these days to peddle products, there are some things that are truly just flat out easy.

..and placing online classified ads to generate website traffic is one of them.

There are actually three benefits from placing classified ads online.

  1. Direct traffic from your classified ads.
  2. Links back to your site from your classified ads.
  3. Page 1 & 2 Search engine positions. (Yep! This too.)

Okay so maybe your scratching your head trying to figure out how you can get page 1 & 2 search engine positions from placing classified ads.

You’re basic using a different backdoor and standing on the shoulders of the classified ad sites.

So, I’ll give you the short explanation and then the simple 5 steps to making it happen.

The classified sites that I’m going to recommend you start with are also authority sites and with a properly done “article ad” you can have your classified ad appearing on page 1 & 2 of Google… quickly. I’ve seen it happen in less than 5 hours using the 5 steps below.

How do you do it?

Simple.

  1. Write a short version of your and a long version (long version being 350 words or so, use your primary keyword).
  2. Post both the short version and long version.
  3. Grab the direct url link to the long version of your ad.
  4. Ping that long version classified ad url at www.Pingler.com.
  5. Social bookmark that same url using your favorite social bookmarking website or program.

That’s it… watch the results.

Speaking of results, the results will vary from ad to ad, market to market, and keyword to keyword.

However following the above 5 steps when placing online classified ads will juice them up in a major way.

A side by side comparison shows more traffic to classified ads following the 5 step process above, then those placed without it.

Of course you can do your own test and see which works better for you and decide which route to go.

All things being consider you must have a compelling ad.

So, whatever your route, I suggest you get to it.

We are now just 1/3 of the way through our 21 day traffic generation series.

If you are applying any of the traffic methods provided so far, then without question you should be generating more traffic, if you apply them consistently then you will experience an overwhelming amount of traffic.

Now, one of the best ways to quickly monetize traffic is to send it to offers already proven to convert.

Many offers proven to convert can be found at Clickbank.com, ShareASale.com or PayDotCom.com. There are actually thousands of sites that offer affiliate products, however these three are a great starting point.

Once you start generating traffic you need to quickly monetize it. One of the worst things that can be done with good traffic is to throw bad offers in front of it. That is a formula for failure.

So always look to test different offers to your traffic.

In a later post we will explore the different ways to monetize all of this traffic you will be generating. So stick with me here. :)

Also, so that you and I are on the same page here… what we are covering in this 21 day traffic generation series are what I consider to be the tried and true traffic fundamentals.

As the internet matures and grows there are all kinds of exotic traffic methods that are born. And while I’m an advocate of testing everything, it shouldn’t be at the expense of building or sustaining a strong traffic foundation with proven fundamentals.

Also, with the fundamentals, while truly effective, they can also get to be truly boring and repetitive. And once you get that bored and tired feeling, you then open yourself up to be seduced by stuff that looks more exciting, but is either unproven or it’s a fad that will have a short shelf life.

Chase the exciting shining fads if you’d like… just please don’t do it at the expense of the fundamentals, okay?

Good.

It’s a very solid, long lasting, sustainable traffic foundation that I’m really hoping to help you to build here.

With that said, let’s turn our attention to generating traffic from eBay.

eBay is a great place to sell your products (not ebooks), and we have found it to be an even better place to generate targeted traffic and leads.

This method is old… but OUTSTANDING!

I originally started using ezine marketing back in 2001 to sell more of our trading products. However when I released my ebook The Whole Truth back in 2003 and found an over abundance of ezines to serve the market I was looking to reach… that’s when I really uncovered the amount of juice and power running simple ezine ads could have.

In fact, I wrote in The Whole Truth (and it still stands today) how I couldn’t understand why ezine owners would sell ads so cheap to list so large and responsive.

Recently, I paid $500 to go into  a higher end ezine to market our MRMI book (free +shipping) offer. In return for that $500, I got over 2,500 visitors, more than 1,400 opted in to our list, we sold over 300 books of which more than 30 took the upsell which is $97 + $39.97 monthly.

So I turned $500 into +1,400 new subscribers, +300 new customers, +$2,900 in immediate revenue and additional monthly revenue of an extra +$1,100 a month… from just one ezine that took me less than 30 minutes to write the ad for and place the order to run it.

SIDE NOTE: To give you some perspective here, by combining what you are learning here in this traffic generation series, I tend to pull in over 1,000 BUYERS A DAY to our different sites!

So how often do you think I’m out there secretly running ezine ads?

Yep, you guess it! ALL THE TIME!

Now if $500 sounds like a lot to run an ezine ad… it’s not when you compare it to the results. Also, it’s not when you consider you can run an ad in most ezines for under $50.

And I’ve taken many $50 ezine ads and turned them into $500, $1,000 and more again and again and again.

Now, just imagine if you have 10, 20, 30, 40 or even 50 ezine ads running every one or two weeks?

As part of our recommended marketing calendar to our coaching students, I give them a list of ezines and insist that they run at least 1 ezine ad per week. Reinvest profits to go into 2 ezine ads per week, then 3 ezine ads per week and so on until they max out the ezine ads in their target market.

By doing this one thing, you can experience hyper growth in your traffic, list building and sales.

Now keep in mind though, not all ezine ads will have the same response or results. For the ezine ads that don’t work out, you can do 1 of 2 things…

  1. Cut it! (Remove it from your ad list)
  2. Continue It! (Test a different ad or offer)

For ezines you run ads in that do work, the next move is obvious… CONTINUE IT!

Keep running it until the wheels fall off.

Okay, so there are three types of ads you can run in ezines. And I’ll list them here in order of preference as well as effectiveness.

  1. Solo Ads
  2. Top Sponsor Ads (some offer Middle Sponsor ads)
  3. Classified Ads

Running ezine ads is a way to do fast measurable direct-response advertising that can allow you to turn dimes into dollars, dollars into hundreds of dollars, hundreds of dollars into thousands of dollars and thousands of dollars into tens of thousands of dollars.

In our training programs I provide a list of the best ezines to market biz ops, mlm, work at home, etc products in. That list exceeds over 100 different ezines. And yep… because I take this so seriously I PERSONALLY compile the list and run ads myself to measure effectiveness.

In all my years marketing on the internet and having created more than 700 websites, more than 200 products having trained 10’s of thousands of people around the world in live audiences in leveraging the internet and on pace this year to do $26 million in business… I have yet to see a faster or more powerful free method (or paid) way of generating traffic than correctly doing forum marketing.

Some may argue the point with so many new social media channels available like Twitter.

However, the same three things that has driven successful forum marketing are the same three things today that drives all successful social media marketing… as you’ll see in a few seconds below.

Today’s Forum Marketing Checklist will give you some specific steps you can take.

What I’d like to do here is give you a brief summary of both the free way and the paid way to do effective marketing with forums.

However, before I do I think its important that you understand the underlining structure of what makes this method tick and work.

Be it Forums, Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, etc. They are channels. Nothing more, nothing less. What sustains these channels are the three primary drivers I’m about to give you so…

Write down and remember these three primary drivers.

  1. Communities
  2. Conversations
  3. Content

These are the three primary drivers of the internet today.

  • Communities of people that gather in forums, on blogs etc.
  • The nature of the conversations they are having.
  • The content that is driving those conversations.

You, as a marketer must align yourself with these three drivers and come in as the “4th-C” if you expect to get any profitable traction.

This 4th-C is…

  • Contributor

You must come in and contribute something of value to the community, the conversation, the content …or ideally, all three.

You can easily go into any forum, right now, today for free and win if you do it correctly.

Here are 5 very general ways to make a contribution correctly to put you in a winning position with forum marketing.

  1. Answer a question (intelligently)
  2. Provide a link to a relevant & helpful resource (not your self promo stuff)
  3. Provoke a new line of thinking (challenge certain assumptions)
  4. Kiss butt (be agreeable)
  5. Kick Butt (be disagreeable, respectfully and intelligently)

As for paid forum marketing.

This is simple. It rocks, the traffic rushes to your site and the conversions are crazy!

Here are 3 simple steps.

  1. Compile a list of forums in your market (I have a list of over 200 forms for make money, mlm, work at home, internet marketing etc that I use)
  2. Check to see if they have Google AdSense (or banner ads) above the fold.
  3. If yes, then simply do Placement Targeting of your AdWords or Image ads on those forums.

Forums are some of the most active places on the internet. So when you find forums around your topic that have Google Ads on them, you can directly and specifically target ads to that forum to start sucking in traffic like a hoover vacuum.

Of all the places you can target paid ads, I have yet to find anything that beats an active forum in generating thousands of visitors for pennies on the dollar.

Now of course getting the traffic is one thing, you need to be able to convert the traffic into subscribers, buyers or whatever it is you’re looking for.

So make sure you have a conversion process in place to catch all of this targeted traffic.

Some of the best free traffic on the internet from classified ads can be generated from Craigslist.

In some ways, Craiglist is like eBay.

eBay is a huge marketplace with two distinct groups of people… BUYERS and SELLERS.

In similar fashion, Craigslist is a huge marketplace of two distinct groups of people… SHOPPERS and PROVIDERS.

  • Shoppers are seeking jobs, products and services.
  • Providers are providing jobs, products and services.

What makes this dude Craig and his list so popular is of little importance. What is important are the stats.

It’s reported that…

  • +40 million people use Craigslist every month.
  • Craigslist gets 10 billion page views a month.
  • And Craigslist is currently serving 567 cities in 55 countries.

Seems like there’s just one big international party taking place over at Craigs joint.

His party list has gotten mighty big… and guess what?

YOU are invited to the party…so put on your dancing shoes!

If you are looking for a way to crank up your traffic, leads and sales then I highly recommend you test some free ads on Craigslist.

From my experience, there are three things that will really turn Craigslist into a traffic workhorse for you.

  1. A great free offer.
  2. Great graphical ads.
  3. A large volume of ads.

When it comes to #3, you will want to consider outsourcing this.

Doing large volumes of ads on Craigslist crosses over into more advanced methods as well as using controversial auto-posting software and outsourcing.

There was a time when auto-posting software for Craigslist was abundantly available. Today however, just about all of those software programs are gone.

It’s not that the software didn’t work… it’s that it didn’t work for long. It seemed like Craigslist was always several steps ahead of the automators who tried to exploit Craiglist.

That said, there are still ways to post large volumes of ads on Craigslist, however that goes beyond the scope of this post.

For this post, let’s keep it straight and simple by sticking with the basics that you can use to start posting on Craigslist today.

Today we will look at how to generate website traffic via article marketing.

Before we get started, here are two quick realities about generating traffic with articles.

  1. It’s EASY! Writing and submitting articles is really easy.
  2. It’s HARD! For most people the hard part is  being CONSISTENT in the process of writing and submitting articles.

As with all marketing, the intangibles to winning are focus, consistency and patience.

More specifically with generating article traffic…

  • Focus on using the right keywords. (They are keys to the kingdom)
  • Consistently write and submit your articles. (The cumulative effect and impact will amaze you)
  • Have patience and let the articles work. (Remember, success happens OVERTIME… not overnight.)

With that said, let’s get started.

With articles, I like to put them into two different categories.

  1. SEO Articles (Written for top rankings in the search engines.)
  2. Content Articles (Written for expert positioning to compel and sell.)

Compelling articles create a gravity towards you, your sites, your offers, etc. and make it much easier to sell your stuff.

Here’s the interesting part about writing compelling articles.

It’s not “what you say” that is most compelling… it’s “what you don’t say.”

In other words, leaving enough black holes in your content that tugs on your audiences desire to want more.

The brain has a tendency to seek completion and close loops. And you can use this to your advantage by putting out great content that is incomplete… content so great your readers love it, and yet so incomplete they run to you wanting more.

The Cliff Hanger Method

If you’re a fan of “24″ …just think of the feeling you get at the end of the episode where you just can’t wait until next week.

Daytime soaps have mastered this “cliff hanger method” as I like to call it. As for using the “cliff hanger method” to create headlines and teasers…  just look at the trailers for the evening news, certainly they have also mastered this.

Got it? …good! :)

How To Do Simple Social Bookmarking For Super Fast Website Traffic (Part 3 of 21)

okay…

So, this is another easy one.It wasn’t in the list of Top 20 because I had it as a sub group of Social Networking.

Anyway… this rocks like crazy! So much so it can be addictive.

I mean really… you don’t get any easier than this for traffic generation.

I can quickly get pages listed in Google on page 1 or 2 in less than 24 hours by doing this one thing.

And for sure, this method of traffic generation is in the “Fast But Fleeting” category.

You can get fast traffic, but it will fade quickly until you create a strong enough social presence to sustain the positions your establish.

I love this… it’s exciting

So let’s get started.

Preliminary

  • Identify the URL(s) you want to social bookmark.
  • Research & identify keywords.
  • Identify categories you want to social bookmark to.
  • Create a short description of your site.

I should state here that KEYWORD RESEARCH is the most important part of this.

You can give a partial effort to social bookmarking but if you use the right keywords it will stay pay off in spades.

If you use the wrong keywords, it makes no difference how much effort you put into social bookmarking… even if you outsource it your results will be nonexistent.

Social Bookmarking

  • Choose manual, semi-automatic software or outsourced.

Manual Submissions

If you’re ready roll up your sleeves and get started doing some social bookmarking to see traffic in a matter of hours, I can think of no better free site to use than this http://socialmarker.com.

Sure, there are many sites out there, however this one has proven itself to be worth the manual effort.

I should also note here that I do social bookmarking is a very specific way. A way that’s a little to complex to describe here so I only teach it in my live training workshops.

That said… social bookmarking is sooooo straight forward as long as you use the right keywords anyone can see results in a matter of ours and see traffic just as fast.

Semi-Automatic Software

While this program could use a better name, It’s worth the semi-automated effort to get faster results with your social bookmarking. Click here, check it out for yourself and see if you like it.

Outsourced

I wouldn’t recommend outsourcing this to a company the provides social bookmark services. The reason why would require a huge list here.

While not all services are created equal, I’ve personally hired many different services only to find them social bookmarking in accounts that get banned, social bookmarking on crappy networks and in one case, getting my site banned.

So careful, careful… careful.

How To Do Directory Submissions To Generate Directory Traffic (Part 2 of 21)

Let’s get started with the fast and easy stuff.

Before we do though, I’d like to share with you a quick perspective that I have on traffic generation.

First is this, I have one simple mantra when it comes to directory submissions, in fact all submissions. And that mantra is simply…

“COMMIT & SUBMIT!”

That simply means being committed to the marketing process and submitting with consistency.

Another quick note I’d like to make here if you don’t mind… I like to put traffic into two basic categories.

Those two categories are:

  • Slow but Solid: (The traffic here comes in slowly at first, it builds up over time and it’s solid for the long term)
  • Fast but Fleeting: (The traffic comes in fast. It pops like fireworks, but it can fade fast.)

And I also like to think of traffic as having “2 natures.”

Those 2 natures being…

  • Interested: (Interested traffic are people “just looking” and are not ready to buy.)
  • Committed: (Committed traffic are people already buying the types of stuff you’re selling and are more likely to buy, than not to buy.)

Perhaps later we can dive deeper into the “2 Traffic Natures” …for now, let’s look at today’s traffic generation method, which is directory submissions.

Directory submissions have been a long time staple of generating long term traffic and is part of the “Slow but Solid” category.

It’s important to have proper expectations from directory submissions. So, what can you expect? Well, you can expect the traffic to grow “gradually then suddenly.”

Directory submissions impact your site PR (Google Page Rank), your search engine position, your link popularity, it helps build site authority and of course all of these can lead to more visibility and more traffic.

All of this makes directory submissions a solid starting point in building a firm traffic foundation.

What we will cover here are the basics.

I’m sure for every person you meet that successfully uses directory submissions to generate traffic, they will have their own twist, spins, tools, ideas and so on. So, I welcome you to add to what I put here and to share your experience and ideas from your own directory submissions.

While I do have simple basic traffic generation methods that work, this isn’t about me having all the answers. So I welcome your contribution as well as your questions.

So let’s begin with Directory Submissions for Directory Traffic.

Preliminary

  • Identify the URL(s) you want to submit.
  • Research & identify keywords.
  • Identify categories you want to submit to.
  • Create a short description of your site.

NOTE: Many directories require you to submit a short summary of your site in 50 words or less. Keep it concise yet appealing and relevant to the category under which you will be submitted your site.

Directory Selection and Submission

  • Choose manual, semi-automatic software or outsourced submissions.

Manual Submissions

  • Identify directories relevant to your product/service, niche or industry.
  • Ensure the directory is geographically suitable.
  • Sign up to directory before submitting if required.
  • Submit your site using the site’s submission procedure.

      These are different for each site, but usually involve completing a standard form with the url, description, and category of your site.

  • Check your email inbox for confirmation urls.

      Some directory sites require you to confirm your submission by opening an activation email with a link to a special code on their site. Also note that some sites are hand-edited so your entry may not appear immediately.

Top 20 Ways To Generate Website Traffic (Part 1 of 21)

A website without traffic is like a body without a spirit… it’s dead.

So without question, one of the critical skills that must be harnessed is the ability to generate traffic.

More specifically, generating the RIGHT kind of traffic.

While the entire equation looks like this…

RT + RO = MRMI

Decoded, this means the “right traffic” to the “right offer” means “making real money on the internet.”

For this 21 part series however, we will focus on what I consider to be the top 20 ways to generate website traffic.
